December 8, 2021 at 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm GMTFree
December 9 marks the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime. It is a day established by the U.N. General Assembly to raise awareness of genocide and the role the U.N. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the Genocide Convention) aimed at addressing it.
While the duties to prevent and punish the crime of genocide are a paramount to addressing genocide, it is clear that there is a significant gap between the duties and their implementation. As such, it is crucial to consider and introduce mechanisms that will enable States to bridge the gap in genocide responses.
